KOTA BHARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has been reminded not to set aside the element of integrity while performing their duties, said its director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim

He said the current era of globalisation and digitisation demanded a new landscape in the civil service.
Zailani said it indirectly requires civil servants to have a high level of integrity, especially those in the enforcement sector.
“Governance in the organisation must always be underpinned by the transparency and accountability of its employees so that a healthy and conducive work ecosystem can be created and maintained.
“In fact, as members of the RTD, we need to ensure that customers get the best service by not setting aside the element of integrity and ensuring that there were no leakages in government revenue,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending the Kelantan RTD Assembly at the RTD compound in Panji here, which was also attended by Kelantan RTD director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf.
He asserted this following the arrest of RTD staff by the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) in conjunction with “Op Sukat” in several states recently.
The media had previously reported that the MACC had detained 44 individuals, including 32 RTD officers, for allegedly being involved in a syndicate to protect lorry drivers who violated traffic laws, especially carrying more load and failing to meet technical aspects which involved bribes amounting to RM1.64 million.
Elaborating further, Zailani said the detention was the result of a collaboration between the RTD and MACC in an effort to ensure that the department avoided any elements of abuse of power and corruption.
He said the department would not compromise with its members or officers who were involved in any activity that could affect the reputation and good name of the RTD, especially from the aspect of integrity.
“Stern action will be taken based on the rules and laws in force on any party found guilty of committing an offence,” he added.
Earlier at the assembly, a total of 10 media practitioners in Kelantan from various agencies including Bernama received certificates of appreciation for helping the RTD disseminate information.
