Kota Kinabalu: A man claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to cheating a man of RM2,000 over the purchase of a vehicle purportedly being disposed of by the authority.
Rozlee Ahmad was accused of tricking one Alsimar Sali by inducing him to believe that the Putatan District Council had disposed of a vehicle and caused Alsimar to deposit RM2,000 into his bank account.
Rozlee allegedly committed the offence at Putatan at 12 noon on Jan 14 this year.
The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.
The prosecution in applying for a case management date proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties.
Rozlee, unrepresented requested for a lower bail by saying that he had been unemployed for two years. Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set May 11 for case management and released Rozlee on a bail of RM1,700 in two sureties.
In another case, a 32-year-old jobless man pleaded not guilty to trespassing into the State Mosque.
Muhd Rahmat Mohd Musneh allegedly committed the offence at the State Mosque, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman at 1.30am on April 3 this year.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties while Rahmat, who was not represented applied for a lower bail amount.
The court fixed May 17 for case management and offered Rahmat bail at RM1,000 in two sureties.
Rahmat was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000 or both on conviction.
Meanwhile, another man claimed trial to having a stolen knife.
Sharrif Shamine Amir allegedly had the stolen knife that belonged to one Abdul Halim Ghulam at 10pm on July 7, 2020 at Kg Kasigui in Penampang.
The prosecution proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties while Sharrif, who was unrepresented, requested for a lower bail on the grounds that he just got a job.
Sharrif was released on a bail of RM1,200 in two sureties pending pre-trial case management on May 11.
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction.
