Kota Kinabalu: City Hall confiscated and towed away 29 abandoned vehicles in public places under the City Hall Anti-Garbage Bylaw 1984 (Amendment 2005) in a recent operation at Kg Likas.
The operation, carried out for three consecutive days, is expected to last for two weeks.
Over the past two months, a total of 46 owners of abandoned vehicles have been given notices to remove their vehicles.
City Hall Enforcement Director Abdul Mukti Muchlish, when contacted Thursday, said of the 46 vehicles, 17 were removed by their owners.
“From the beginning of 2020, City Hall has issued a total of 152 notices to car owners, but only 82 vehicles were removed by the owners.
“During the period from January to March this year, 75 notices were issued and only 13 vehicles were removed by the owners.
“The towed vehicles will be disposed of if not claimed within 30 days,” said Abdul Mukti.
He reminded city dwellers against parking or abandoning their vehicles in public places to prevent them from becoming a source of health issues such as a breeding ground for aedes mosquitoes.
“Let us all keep the city clean for the health and wellbeing of all,” he said.
