Kuala Lumpur: The Youth Skills Golf Academy (AKBG), with the assistance of the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS), aims to develop more professional caddies in the country through the use of digital golf equipment simulations.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the ministry wants to provide opportunities to youths to obtain golf and caddie training with the assistance of government and private bodies that have access to sophisticated digital technology.
He said in line with new technological advancements, the use of digital simulations developed by South Korea can analyse golf players’ performance in terms of speed and distance of shots and the position of the golf ball in the field, as well as the movements of the player’s body while taking the shot.
Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said the ministry also welcomed the organisation of international golf championships in the country, subject to the set standard operating procedure (SOP).
“Currently, there isn’t any suggestion to organise any international championship, but if there is, we welcome it and are ready to support such efforts.
“We have relaxed certain aspects of the SOP, in terms of audience numbers and such, so if there are any applications this year, we will make it happen,” he said at a media conference after the Benchmarking Golf programme at the AKBG here.
He said the ministry was also ready to provide support to two e-sports players who will represent Malaysia at the Fifae Nations Cup scheduled to take place live online this Thursday and Friday.
The support includes preparing training centre facilities at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Council for Ahmad Akmal Abdul Rafil (AkmalJHD) and Luqman Haziq Hajiman (LuqmanHzq).
