JOHOR BAHRU: Ten Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) officers suspected of being involved in organised crime activities masterminded by businessman Nicky Liow Soon Hee were detained in several states, as of Tuesday.
Johor police chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said those picked up were aged between 35 and 49.
He said they were detained in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, from April 21 until today under phase 2 of Ops Pelican 3.0.
‘’The arrests involved two officers, one with the rank of Superintendent stationed at Bukit Aman CID and an Inspector in Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS).
‘’Four more were stationed at Selangor police contingent headquarters (IPK). They were a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Narcotics CID, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) at the Special Branch as well as two Inspectors in CID and Ampang Jaya district police headquarters (IPD),’’ he told a special media conference at Johor IPK here, today.
Ayob Khan said the detention also involved a DSP at Melaka Tengah CID and two ASPs of Kuala Lumpur IPK stationed in Sentul Commercial CID.
He said the arrest at the Negeri Sembilan IPK involved an Inspector stationed at Pulapol Air Hitam while the arrests at MACC involved two officers with the rank of MACC Assistant Commissioner and Superintendent in Putrajaya.
He said all were being detained for 28 days to assist in investigations under Section 130V to Section 130ZB of the Penal Code, Chapter VI B Organised Crimes of the Penal Code and Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
The latest arrests brought to 64 individuals detained on suspicion of being involvement in Nicky Gang, he said.
‘’The Johor police will continue to conduct follow up investigations to identify the remnants of the individuals involved. We believe more from enforcement agencies will be arrested,’’ he said.
On March 30, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Hamid Bador revealed that 34 enforcement agency officers and staff were suspected to be in cahoots with the Nicky Gang.
At the same media conference, Abdul Hamid was also reported as saying that 68 members of the criminal group were detained including eight with the title Datuk Seri and Datuk.
