Man denies having syabu

Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old man was charged with having 35.4gm of syabu.

Ag Rizwan Lasikin pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus to the charge against him, Wednesday.

He is accused of having the drug at 6.30pm on Feb 15 this year by the roadside in Kg Tanjung Batu, Kota Belud.

The offence under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act carries a jail term of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping at least 10 strokes, upon conviction. The court set June 8 for pre-trial case management and ordered Ag Rizwan to be remanded further.

Meanwhile, in another court, a 41-year-old man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered given a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Donny Taimpin who pleaded guilty to taking the drug at 8.10am on Apr 3 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug.

The charge stated that Donny has three previous convictions for taking the drug.

After completing his jail sentence, Donny was ordered placed under police supervision for two years.
