LABUAN: The Covid-19 vaccination centre at the Membedai Health Clinic, here, has been relocated to Kompleks Anak Yatim Darul Kifayah’s hall, effective Thursday.

Labuan Health Department Director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the new centre could accommodate a larger number of people, making it more conducive for the vaccine administration process.

He said the centre would be opened from 7.30am until 4pm daily, except on Sunday and public holidays.

“As long as there are people registered, we are prepared to receive them and get them vaccinated, and we will increase the number of channels from four to six when necessary,” he said.

A check found at least one hundred individuals aged 60 and below had been queuing at the centre as early as 7.30am for mandatory registration, counselling session and inoculation.

The two other vaccination centres in Labuan are located at the Labuan Corporation’s multipurpose hall and Labuan Nucleus Hospital.

Dr Ismuni said at the moment, the concern was still on the low registration rate for voluntary vaccination among senior citizens who accounts for around 25 per cent of the total Labuan’s population and health personnel were trying their best to assist them.

Meanwhile, Labuan Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force Chairman Rithuan Ismail said the task force aimed for the island to achieve herd immunity as early as December this year and was prepared to kick-start the third phase of the vaccination programme in August.

“However, the registration pattern is still at a slow pace. We only have 48.4 per cent people registered as of May 4,” he said.
