Cop is found hanged in Sandakan home

Kota Kinabalu: A policeman was found hanged several hours after sahur (pre-dawn meal) with his family at a housing area in Sandakan, Friday.

The wife of the 28-year-old lance-corporal, said to be from the peninsula, found the body in their living room at 7.30am.

Sabah police chief Hazani Ghazali said the policeman was attached to the Sandakan marine police team.

He said investigations are under way, and the policeman had a good work record besides having no issues with his colleagues or superiors.

In SIBU, three policemen are in remand for a week until May 14 over the death of a colleague at their rented house on Lorong Permai Timur 9, Taman Permai here on Thursday.

The remand order against the suspects, all from the peninsula and aged 21, 23 and 27, was issued by magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar. Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was earlier reported that their colleague, constable Norhalim Tumiran, 25, was found slumped on a sofa in the house with gunshot wounds to the head.

According to police, Norhalim, who was married with a child, had just moved into a transit house at the Sibu police headquarters after completing his basic training as a policeman.

He was said to have gone to the house before the breaking of fast to play computer games. Sibu district police chief Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said preparations are being made to send Norhalim’s body to his hometown.
