SFD leads mangrove restoration
Dr Ong shows how a road built without drainage culverts through a mangrove area caused the mangrove plants on the left to be impacted by the drying out of the water supply from the right side where plants remain healthy.
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Forestry Department (SFD) leads in mangrove restoration as 93 per cent of mangroves are classified as forest reserve, with the main issues or challenges being faced are encroachment, poaching, expansion of human settlement, erosion, which led to extinction of mangroves.
