Jail, cane for taking drugs repeatedly
Kota Kinabalu: A man, who had four convictions for taking drugs was jailed five years and ordered given a stroke of the cane for repeating the offence.

Mohd Al- Rasul Wasran pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against him on Thursday.

He was found taking drugs for the fifth time on July 18, 2020 after his urine tested positive for drugs at the Penampang police station.

The offence under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 read together under Section 39C (1)(a) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of five years to seven years and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Mohd Al- Rasul to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on July 18, 2020 and to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing his jail sentence.

In the same court, another man was sent to prison for five years plus a stroke of the cane also for repeatedly taking syabu.

Eddy Ikmal admitted to taking syabu after his urine tested positive for drugs on Jan 17 this year at the police station here.

He has several conviction records for similar offence.

After serving the sentence, the court also ordered Eddy to be placed under police supervision for two years.
