Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has dismissed a viral photo of him purportedly eating turtle eggs which are protected products as “fitnah” or a malicious statement.
Bung said in a Facebook comment: “Ini lah Fitnah yg dimanipulasi oleh mereka yg tidak bertangguh jawab utk menjatuhkan karier politik saya dgn isu yg terlalu murahan dan tidak bertamadun!” (This is "fitnah", manipulation by irresponsible people out to tarnish my political career with cheap shots).
Bung made the comment in support of a post by a Facebook user named “Rapidcdorezo” who said that the original image had been manipulated to make Bung appear as if he was eating turtle eggs.
In that post, Rapidcdorezo uploaded a photo that he said was the original one that was his, which showed eggs that apparently looked different in shape from the viral version that purported turtle eggs were on the table.
Possession of turtle eggs is an offence and convicted offenders face a fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both.
