Kota Kinabalu: A Klang Valley dog shelter owner who believes he will not survive his Covid-19 infection due to old age is asking for help to care for his 59 dogs if he dies.

According to the man's post in his Facebook page named "Erlang's Dog", he has been confirmed to be positive for the virus and as he is old, he has no chances of beating it.

"If I'm no longer around, I hope there will be people to take care of the 59 'kids'. I've been caring for them for eight years. I rescued them from the street," he said.

"Please don't take them somewhere else. Although the rent is RM3,200, they're safe here as the neighbours are far away and the house is big enough for 59 dogs.

"I have a caretaker whom I pay RM1,500 to work between 9am and 7pm cleaning, feeding and making sure they don't fight. He's been working for the last six years and loves the 'kids'. Dog food costs RM5,600 per month."

The man said they had been evicted from several previous homes and five years ago, a local council took the dogs away but he "bailed them out".

"The neighbours hated us because no matter how much we cleaned up, the dog smell was overpowering," he recalled.

The man said he loves the dogs and lives his life just for them.

"If I'm not around anymore, please take care of them. Each of them is like a kid."
