SIPITANG: The main pipe that broke as a result of the Pan Borneo construction project is likely to be one of the reasons residents in the district have to deal with frequent water shortages.

A resident, Shakir Osman, contacted Daily Express and said the Sabah State Water Department should find a solution to the problem.

“We have been without water supply for three days in a row and it has affected thousands of residents here.

“To this day, we still do not know the real cause of the lack of water supply.

“But there is a possibility that it happened due to the main pipe that broke as a result of the Pan Borneo project, but (the contractor) did not inform the Water Department,” he said.

Shakir said the lack of water supply posed many problems to the residents such as making it difficult for them to cook, bathe and wash.

He said certain parties like Pan Borneo contractors should be more careful and not let this happen.

“Therefore, we want the director of the Sabah State Water Department together with its engineers to review this matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shakir also hoped the Public Works Department (JKR) would monitor and repair the damaged roads to provide comfort and safety to road users until the Pan Borneo project is fully completed.

He said the road damage was getting worse and also pothole-ridden.

“The potholes are difficult to avoid and the situation endangers the safety of road users. My car sustained a lot of damage because of the potholes,” he said, urging JKR to improve the situation as the potholes were difficult to see at night.
