RANAU: Search is underway for a man who was reported missing by relatives when he failed to return home from inspecting his fish traps since Jan. 1.
Moijin bin Gamiyan (pic), 65, from Kg Tinanom Ranau had gone to the forest near his home on Jan. 1.
After not returnng home for three days, his daughter, Norliza Moijin, contacted police who informed the Fire and Rescue Department here.
A team of rescuers led by Ranau Fire and Rescue Officer, Ridwan Mohd Taib along with four personnel and a utility vehicle moved to the location situated about 75km away.
District Police Chief DSP Simiun Lomudin said the victim was last seen wearing a blue shirt with army type trousers. He went into the forest carrying a machete and a barait (backpack).
Although there was no report about flooding in the village, the river is on the brink of overflowing following torrential rain since the New Year.
He said Moijin went to check fish traps that he placed along the Sungai Keliu, one of the branches of the Liwagu Kogibangan river.
He said 21 personnel from PDRM, Fire and Rescue, APM and RELA joined in the search. Also participating were villagers from the surounding area.
