PETALING JAYA: Police will investigate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki after the latter admitted that his brother used his trading account to buy shares, home minister Hamzah Zainudin said.

He said this follows a police report lodged against the top graft-buster, Harian Metro reported.

Hamzah said he was made to understand that Azam would be investigated under the Securities Commission Malaysia Act.

“We just received the police reports and if there is any wrongdoing, an investigation will be carried out,” the Malay daily quoted him as saying.

Earlier today, four PKR MPs lodged a police report against Azam.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Azam said that his superiors were informed when he allowed his brother, Nasir, to buy shares using his trading account in 2015. He was head of the MACC’s investigation division at the time.

While the MACC’s Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) said it had cleared Azam of any wrongdoing, opposition MPs have pointed out that the ACAB’s terms of reference do not give them the mandate to investigate or clear anyone of wrongdoing.
