Indonesian, 34, gets death over 170g of syabu
TAWAU: An unemployed Indonesian man was sentenced to death by the High Court, here, for trafficking 169.60gm of syabu.

Matin Sahid, 34, was found guilty of committing the crime at 1pm on Oct 17, 2018 in a house at Kg Mangga, Kalabakan.

High Court Judge Dr Lim Hock Ling in his decision held that the court found that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Lim also held that the prosecution managed to prove that Matin possessed the drugs at the time of the incident, thus denying his defence that he was not involved and was only at the location and had nothing to do with the drugs.

Matin was convicted under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty, on conviction.

Matin, a father of three, bowed his head and was seen shedding tears as he cast a glance at his sister-in-law who was the only member of his family present at the proceeding.

It was revealed during the trial that Matin was busy packing drugs in the house and was unaware of the presence of the police team and tried to run away.

The trial which commenced in October 2021 saw three prosecution witnesses testify.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ali Imran prosecuted while Matin was represented by counsel Muhd Abdul Karim.
