Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man claimed trial at the High Court, here, Friday, to murdering his fiancee’s mother in Pitas, two years ago.
George Nanas, who was brought before Judicial Commissioner Amelati Parnell, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
George was accused of murdering Habibah Abungon, 68, at 11pm on Dec 19, 2020 in a house at Kg Puyuh, Pitas.
The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a death penalty, on conviction. DPP Mohammed Ali Imran applied for a new mention date.
The court set Feb 17 for mention.
In another case, a Filipino was sentenced to a year’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court for taking syabu.
Lobo Jasmi pleaded guilty before Senior Assistant Registrar Abdurrahman Abrar Jarni, who sat as a magistrate, to committing the offence, here, on May 29, last year.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction. Lobo was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence. Inspector Navind Kumar Vijayan prosecuted.
