Kota Kinabalu: Australia reported more than 100,000 new Covid-19 cases in a day for the first time today, according to reports.
Victoria state's cases more than doubled to 51,356 as authorities started counting rapid test results for the first time.
Australia registered 116,025 new cases nationwide including 45,098 in New South Wales state.
New South Wales officials are bracing for hospitalisation to more than double to a peak of 4,700 by late this month.
Hospitals in the state have begun treating Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients in the same ward, reversing established protocol, as cases skyrocketed in recent weeks with Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and former Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull among the latest high-profile individuals to contract the virus.
