Fisherman feared drowned in Beaufort
BEAUFORT: A fisherman was reported missing at Tanjung Batu-Batu, Kg Lubok Weston, here, early Monday.Kifli Jambul, 34, was last seen fishing and is feared to have drowned in the vicinity.

According to Beaufort Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok, a search and rescue team was dispatched to the area after receiving a distress call at 8am.

The team included personnel from the police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and Civil Defence Force.

The man was reported missing when villagers discovered his empty boat stranded along the river at Pulau Nipah.

“They tried to find the individual who had gone out to sea at 6am on Monday and had not returned,” said Mohammad Hasbullah.

In separate incidents, two other fishermen were reported missing while out at sea, in Kuala Penyu and Kg Palakat in Sipitang, respectively.

In the case of the Sipitang incident, a 34-year-old man named Iqbal Daud went missing when his boat overturned. About 1.50pm, fellow fishermen found him dead, 500 metres away from the scene.
