Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old man charged with committing physical sexual harassment against his stepdaughter will go trial on Aug 18-19.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the date for the man when he maintained his innocent during pre-trial case management.
The man is accused of committing the offence against the 15-year-old girl by fondling her breasts in early October, 2021, at a house in Kepayan, here.
The offence under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
Due to the relation between the man and the alleged victim, the man faces another additional punishment under Section 16 of the same Act which carries a jail term of up to five years, and whipping of at least two strokes of the cane, on conviction.
During the proceedings, the prosecution served documents pertaining the case to the man.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution while the man was not represented.
The man was ordered to be remanded further.
