Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old civil servant was charged with committing physical sexual harassment against a boy.
Sharif Hardi Roman Sh. Miasin pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to the charge against him on Friday via Zoom.
Sharif is accused of committing the offence by performing oral sex on the 15-year-old boy at 4.40pm on Jan 4 this year at the VVIP toilet at the National Registration Department building, here.
The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court set Feb 17 this year for case management and released Sharif on bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties with permanent address and job.
Sharif was also warned not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station twice a month as well as his passport, if any, to be impounded by the court until the disposal of his case. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution while Sharif was not represented.
Meanwhile, in another case, two men were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally. Alvin Abu Bakar and Yulius Belili, pleaded guilty to entering the State without identification documents.
The illegal immigrants were arrested in Beaufort and the city on Nov 24, 2021 and Jan 1 this year after failing to produce their identification documents to the police.
After completing their jail sentence, the court ordered the illegal foreigners to be referred to the Immigration Department.
