Injured woman climber piggy-backed down Mt Kinabalu

RANAU: Another local woman climber had to be piggy-backed down Mt Kinabalu after suffering foot injury during a climb down from the summit, here, Monday.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Ridwan Mohd Taib said that the incident happened at about 8.30am at Km 7.2 of the Mt Kinabalu trail.

“The Auxiliary Fire Officer Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) unit  received a call that there was a female victim who sprained her left ankle.

“The incident occurred while the 54-year-old victim was descending from the summit, heading down towards Laban Rata,” he said, Monday.

According to Ridwan, the PBB Mosar led by PBK II KUP Farro Raison Gusar, acted on the location and gave initial treatment to the victim before carrying her on his back to Laban Rata.

He said from there, the victim was taken down to Timpohon Gate using a Robinson Stretcher and then sent to Ranau Hospital using EMRS vehicle.

Ridwan said the operation ended at 3.55pm.

Meanwhile, he also advised climbers to the Mount Kinabalu to be extra carefully during the current rainy season because the ground surface and rocks are more slippery.

“Always climb in groups, don’t walk alone and make sure to be attentive to what the guides said. This is so important in order to avoid any untoward incidents,” he said.
