PETALING JAYA: The government is reducing the quarantine period for Malaysians and foreign long-term pass holders entering the country to between five to 10 days depending on their vaccination status.

At a press conference today, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said those who have received their booster dose will only need to be quarantined for five days.

Travellers who have been fully vaccinated but have yet to receive their booster dose will be quarantined for seven days.

Those who have not been fully vaccinated will be quarantined for 10 days.

The release of a traveller from quarantine will depend on their Covid-19 test before the end of the quarantine period.

Khairy said the Covid-19 pink bands denoting persons under surveillance will be discontinued.

“Instead, these people will be given a digital home surveillance order or HSO.

“Health officers would also be fitting travellers from high-risk countries and who are quarantining at home with a digital surveillance bracelet,” he added.

Children will be subjected to the same quarantine period as their accompanying parents or guardian.

Those testing positive on arrival will be managed according to existing procedures.

The new rules come into effect from next Monday.

At a glance, the quarantine rules have been broken down into three categories:

Firstly, for those vaccinated with a booster dose (including adolescents aged 12 to 17), the rules are as follows:

• Five-day quarantine

• Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on the fourth day or alternatively, a RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the fifth day.

• Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the fourth day, or RTK-Antigen on the fifth day.

Secondly, for those who have completed their primary vaccine dose but have yet to get a booster dose, the rules are as follows:

• Seven-day quarantine

• Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on the fifth day or alternatively, a RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the seventh day.

• Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the fifth day, or RTK-Antigen on the seventh day.

Thirdly, for persons without any vaccination history or with an incomplete dose, the rules are as follows:

• 10-day quarantine

• Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival

• Subject to a RT-PCR test on the eighth day or alternatively, a RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the tenth day.

• Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the eighth day, or RTK-Antigen on the tenth day.
