The traffic jam situation along Tuaran Road.
Kota Kinabalu: The terrible daily hour-long traffic jam along the road from Telipok onwards to Inanam has caused serious outcry by commuters who are travelling on the stretch of Tuaran Road, said former Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Hiew King Cheu.

He said this is basically due the upgrading work on the road carried out by the Public Works Department (JKR).

“The construction work progress is slow and the traffic diversion is not in good order.

“All road intersections and junctions have no proper arrangement to allow swift flow of cars. The situation becomes worse during peak hours,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Hiew said he received numerous public complaints from public who are forced to use this stretch of road every day.

“Nobody likes to get stuck in an hourly traffic jam every day, which is two hours back and forth time wasted, and car fuel burnt away.

Hiew called on JKR to immediately address the problem and make necessary rearrangement to the work schedule and construction method on the road upgrading work.

“More traffic diversions and lay-bys can be adopted and created to speed up the traffic flow. More night time works should be encouraged to speed up the progress, due to less cars at night hours.

“The people wish the Government can expedite the work and get it done quickly. If China can build many super highways in one year, why in Sabah it takes so many years to complete a small stretch of road from Telipok to Inanam.

“Is the hold-up of work because of no allocation from the Federal Government? The people wish to know,” he said.
