TAWAU: Police apprehended nine local men aged between 21 and 33 in connection with a fight that left four people slightly injured, here.
On Friday, a video of the footage was shared on social media.
All nine have been remanded for four days till February 1, according to Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Nor Azizulkifli Mansor. One of the nine has previous criminal convictions regarding gambling.
He said that the Magistrate Court’s remand order allowed for additional investigation of the case under Sections 148 and 427 of the Penal Code.
According to him, the nine were detained after a public complaint and confirmation of the 30 to 40 seconds video clip of the altercation.
He said the fight was believed to have begun with a misunderstanding inside a café and continued outside the premises in the Kubota Square construction area.
He said police received two reports related to the fight on Jan 28.
In the meantime, he advised the public not to speculate on the case to avoid public outrage and disrupt the police investigations as detailed probed is still ongoing.
He also asked the public not to spread unverified information related to the case.
