SIPITANG: Sipitang district police will test a tsunami siren system under the Malaysian National Tsunami Early Warning System network.District Police Chief Champin Piuh, here, at the weekend, said the test will be carried out by the police.

The siren will be activated on from 9am to 9.30am on Jan 31.
He explained that the siren is positioned within the Sipitang police headquarters for easy control, and that the goal is for the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the police to test the efficiency of the siren system.
The Information Department, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Force will all be involved in the drill. It will include sound tests as well as speech messages that will be audible for up to three kilometres.
As a result, Champin explained, the surrounding population is told ahead of time of the siren tests so as not to cause fear.

“We are making beginning preparations to test the siren to prepare us in the event of a probable tsunami occurring,” Champin added, citing Sipitang as one of the districts confronting the coastline area.
