Kota Kinabalu: A rare motor accident and narrow escape was recorded in the city after a car went out of control and crashed onto a rocky embankment off the Likas Bay coastal roadway, stopping just short of diving into the water that could have spelt a more serious disaster for the two occupants yesterday.
The duo, 19-year-old students, were unharmed, but the aftermath as recorded in viral photos proved to be a rare sight on that part of the road and a hair-raising near-miss that passersby would certainly wonder "what if".
The Toyota Camry was heading towards Likas from the city centre on the fast lane when it swerved to the left towards the sea, a city traffic police officer was quoted as saying.
"After the mishap, the driver and his passenger were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for outpatient treatment and the doctor informed both were unhurt," the officer said.
As for the car, the damage was mostly to its undercarriage and front.
