PETALING JAYA: A family’s Chinese New Year celebrations in Pahang turned tragic after a Covid-19 positive relative who returned from the Klang Valley infected one of their elders, killing the senior citizen days later.

According to Pahang health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, the person who returned to visit their parents had not done a self-test before the trip.

She said two days after the person left for KL, one of the parents tested positive for Covid-19 but did not report it to the health authorities.

“Instead, the deceased was isolated in a room in the house. Maybe the family thought the parent would feel better receiving proper care at home. Or perhaps they were worried that they would be forced to quarantine.

“A day after testing positive, the patient was found dead in the room. There are a lot of lessons we can learn from this,” she said in a Facebook post.

The deceased was later reported as a “brought-in-dead” case by health authorities.

Azimi urged everyone to test for Covid before visiting their loved ones. She said booster doses were necessary on top of primary vaccine doses to protect one from Covid-19 and to help reduce the spread.
