Smuggling bid foiled, man held
TAWAU: A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle in cosmetics worth more than RM13,000 via the waters off Aji Kuning, Pulau Sebatik, around 10.52am, on Tuesday.

Tawau Marine Police Force (PPM) Commanding Officer DSP Ridzauddin Selamat said a team on “Op Gelora” duty detected a “jongkong” (boat) heading suspiciously towards the waters off Kg Ice Box. He said an inspection on the jongkong found various types of cosmetics without the approval of the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“The boat’s skipper was arrested and the cosmetics meant for the local market were seized and taken to the Tawau PPM Base for further action,” he said.

Ridzauddin said the case was handed over to the Tawau Pharmacy Department to be investigated under Section 18A(1)(a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Control Regulations 1984.
