Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old woman who caused hurt to her cousin with an aluminium rod, was jailed 10 months and fined RM2,000 or another two months.
Senior Assistant Registrar Tiong Wen Wen, who sat as a Magistrate, handed the sentence to Rozana Awang who pleaded guilty to the charge against her.
Rozana had assaulted Elsharinah Elvis Maidin, 25, by using the aluminium rod at 9.30am on May 6, 2021 at a house in Taman Wawasan Mahandoi, Penampang.
The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any two of such punishments, on conviction.
The court granted Rozana’s application for a stay of execution of the sentence and was released on a bail of RM8,000 in two sureties.
Elsharinah was referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 and doctor confirmed that Elsharinah suffered left forehead-laceration wound, right jaw-bruising and tender, right forearm wrist-deformity, swollen and tender and right hand hypothenar-laceration wound.
Following a police report lodged by the victim, Rozanah was arrested.
