KUDAT: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) wants to reach out to young voters aged 18 and above by giving priority to the party’s young leaders to contest in the coming General Election (GE).
Deputy Chief Minister Star President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the party wanted to highlight young leaders to elevate its growing struggle.
“We want young leaders because now young people aged 18 and above can vote, we have the opportunity and when Star contests, make sure we win,” he said.
Dr Jeffrey, who is also the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, said this when officiating the Tanjong Kapor Star Liaison Office and ‘Cowboy Farm’ in Kg Tamalang, here.
He hoped that the parties in the coalition government could give way to Star to contest in the Kudat parliamentary constituency because in the last State Election, the party was not given the opportunity to contest in the State seat here.
“Previously, we were not allowed to contest in the state constituencies but we were promised that we could contest in parliamentary constituencies, so this time we demand that Kudat be given to Star to contest,” he said.
Also present were Star Secretary General Edward Linggu Bukut; Information Chief, Jalumin Bayogoh; Chief Coordinator of Star Kudat, Francol Tiying; Deputy Chief Coordinator and Vice Chief of Tanjung Kapor Division, Shawn Davey Robert Lee and Matunggong Division Chief, Marunsai Dawai.
Earlier, Dr Jeffrey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Keningau, attended a ‘Backbencher Retreat’ here and continued a programme to meet the people in Kg Pandan Mandamai in Bengkoka.
He arrived with full tradition reception of Rungus and Chinese ethnicities and described ‘Cowboy Farm’ as a conservation habitat for various livestock, crops and plant nurseries.
In Pitas, Dr Jeffrey, who is also Tambunan Assemblyman, donated two boats for the residents of Kg Pandan Mandamai.
