RANAU: Two delivery truck workers nearly died when their vehicle skidded and plunged into a 10-metre gorge, near here, Thursday.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Ridwan Mohd Taib (pic) told the media that the incident happened in Batu 3, Jalan Kundasang-Ranau at about 4m.
Following the accident, he said one victim was trapped inside the crashed vehicle, and both men suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the Ranau Hospital by ambulance.
“We received a call about the accident and rushed four personnel led by PBK II Becket Gumat along with a FRT engine and an EMRS vehicle to the scene located about three kilometers away.
“In the incident, it was found that an accident involving a 2-tonne Isuzu truck carrying hardware equipment that slipped into a gorge 10 metres deep. There were two victims involved.
“One of them managed to get out on his own while the other one was extracted by the fire brigade. All the victims received initial treatment from EMRS personnel before being sent to the hospital,” he said.
According to Ridwan, Mohd Habibi Ramli, 39 who was the driver of the truck, suffered severe injury to the head, while the other victim, Ainijal Abdul, suffered a broken leg.
He said after the rescue operation, inspections around the location were carried out to ensure there were no other hazards and operations were terminated at 4.55pm.
