Kota Kinabalu: Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is confident that the coalition will stay relevant in Sabah’s political environment despite attempts to eliminate BN and Sabah Umno in the previous state election.
"We know that in the recent state election, there were attempts to rid Sabah of BN, but it is apparent that BN-Umno is still strong in Sabah," he told a press conference after officiating the PBRS' Tri-annual Delegates Conference here on Saturday.
"I hope that the Sabah BN leadership under Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, will continue to work with other BN allies to not only increase support and influence, but also to carry out all of the promises and commitments made during the last state election."
"Although Umno and BN are merely part of the government in Sabah, I am quite optimistic that the strength of our party, particularly BN, will be able to help translate and implement all of the promises that have been made to Sabah voters and the people of Sabah in general," he said.
He also expressed optimism that, with the new leadership at PBRS, notably PBRS Deputy President Datuk Arthur Kurup, PBRS’ presence as a BN component partner will be more visible.
"With the changing political landscape in Sabah, I am very convinced that PBRS will never be labelled a small party," he said, adding that "Along with other partners in the Sabah BN, PBRS will play a more vital and bigger role."
