Water, power for legal squatters

THE State Government has, in principle, agreed to supply electricity and water to squatter colonies using prepaid cards, as one of the ways to resolve the power and water thefts that run into millions of ringgit in losses yearly. Deputy Chief Minister cum Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said this would be for  squatters who want to get electricity supply.

“They must buy a prepaid card and a metre will be installed at their dwelling structure for their own consumption.
“So it would be up to each of them (squatters). If they want to use more electricity, they will have to top up.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
“We will have a similar proposal for clean water supply to the squatters, so as to minimise non-revenue water (NRW). “Because if not, then the State Water Department will only be able to sell 40 per cent of the water supply, while the remaining 60 per cent gone, which should not be the way to do business,” he said, adding these are for the locals who live in squatter colonies.

This would be a solution to the frequent electricity and water supply thefts in the State, said Bung.
