Umno Sabah to help recapture Johor seats
JOHOR BAHRU: Barisan Nasional/Umno Sabah is ready to shoulder the responsibility as the adopted state to recapture the State Assembly seats in the coming Johor state election (PRN) on March 12.

The seats include Tiram and Putri in Tebrau as well as the Permas and Johor Jaya seats in Pasir Gudang.

Its Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said Sabah BN/Umno had been given the responsibility to help the Johor party machinery campaign in such areas.

He considered it a challenge, but is confident that the spirit and strategy would recapture the four seats in the election.

“We do not need to look back on the results of the 14th General Election, because at that time the people’s minds were diverted by various allegations and opposition propaganda.

“But after 22 months of Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional rule, the people as a whole have seen and feel that what was implemented by these two governments not only failed to develop the country but also failed to fulfil the manifesto promised to the people,” he said.

He said this after the briefing and handover ceremony of the BN Johor state election machinery for the Southern Zone operations centre, here, Monday night. The ceremony was officiated by BN Chairman Datuk Sri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno President.

Bung said among challenges faced by the machinery include complying with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as the challenge of reeling in young voters aged 18 to 21, as they need a different mechanism to attract their support for the election.

“However, we are ready to face the challenge. “This includes leveraging on social media as a platform to reach out to them,” he said.

Bung said the BN/Umno machinery from Sabah will be camping in Johor for two weeks to help the local machinery with the election campaign.
