Kota Kinabalu: A man was fined RM100 in default a day’s jail for failing to give reasonable explanation how he obtained two units of vehicle chassis frame believed to be stolen.
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun meted out the sentence to Cyril Wong Tet Kong, 30, who changed his plea and admitted to the charge against him during pre-trial case management.
Wong committed the offence at 4.20pm on Dec 30, 2021 at Seri Neraca Sdn Bhd, Jalan Tanaki, Penampang.
The offence under Section 22A of the Minor Offences Ordinance carries a fine of up to RM100, or a jail term of up to three months, or both, on conviction.
Duty counsel Lawrence Lim asked for leniency, saying that Wong had been remanded for 14 days and he needed to look after his children as he was divorced from his wife.
In another case, a 31-year-old man was charged with stealing a handphone.
However, no plea was taken from Mohd Fadzil Yusof after the charge was read to him.
His plea would be recorded on March 22 and the court released Mohd Fadzil on bail of RM1,500 in two sureties.
Mohd Fadzil was accused of stealing the handphone belonging to Mohammad Shafiq Osman at 5am on Jan 10 this year at the Washria Point Laundry Self Service, here.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik appeared for the prosecution.
