Ex-Water official discharged, not acquitted of 146 charges, but to be slapped with RM30m compound

Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah Water Department deputy director Teo Chee Kong was today granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from all 146 counts of money laundering from illegal activities amounting to RM32.9 million right before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) announced that he would be slapped with a RM30 million compound.

Special Corruption Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat granted the DNAA after being informed that the prosecution had decided to discontinue all the 146 charges against Teo.

The prosecution applied for DNAA on Friday.

MACC Legal and Prosecution Division senior director Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah told the media after the proceedings that the MACC and also the Federal Attorney-General have decided to impose the compound action against Teo based on Section 92 of the  Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
