Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has approved a plot of land near SJK (C) Chung Hwa Tamparuli, which it had applied for 13 years ago.
SJK Chung Hwa (C) Tamparuli Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman, George Teo, said the school is thankful to the Chief Minister and it showed that Hajiji is concerned about Chinese education as well as students’ welfare.

Teo said the pre-war school built in 1940 had applied for the plot in 2009 but was objected to by the Tuaran District Council as part of the land was previously a sewerage facility.
“However, the district council closed the sewerage facility around 2000 and shifted it to another place, thus leaving the land idle.
“As the land is just next to the school, the school management decided to apply for the land and at the same time helped to upkeep the plot, including employing workers to cut the grass,” he said.
Teo said the land would be used for the school’s expansion as well as its Serasi programme.
“Serasi is an educational programme aimed to promote environmental awareness among students. Under the programme, students would have the opportunity to learn about gardening and landscaping, among others.
“The Chief Minister’s kind gesture will go a long way in the school’s initiative to nurture young students to love and protect the environment.
“On behalf of the school management, parents, teachers, pupils and the people of Tamparuli, Hajiji’s gift to the school is much appreciated,” he said, adding that the Chinese community is also grateful for his kind gesture.
