Judge had doubts about Sulu claim
Justice Macaskie (left).
Kota Kinabalu: Although deciding in favour of the nieces of the Sultan of Sulu and a self-proclaimed male heir in their claim for the annual cession money in 1939, Justice Charles Macaskie had serious doubts about the sultanate’s supposed claim to ownership of parts of Sabah’s east coast, Daily Express can reveal for the first time.

“I had great difficulty and am not at all sure I was right,” Macaskie admitted in his memoirs that were published in the book, “End Of An Era: The Borneo Reminiscences of C.F.C Macaskie, C.M.G.” He was the first Chief Justice of Borneo and died in 1969.
