Kota Kinabalu: There are signs of stabilisation in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in Sabah, said State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

However, he stressed that the stabilisation and decrease of new cases depends on the society’s SOP compliance.

“Community’s attitude is the key determinant of our success in combating Covid-19,” he said in a statement, Saturday.

Sabah’s daily new Covid-19 cases dipped below the 2,000 mark to 1,778, Saturday, bringing the State’s total to 350,574.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu is still the main contributor to the caseload with 511 cases, a decrease of 166 cases compared to Friday’s.

“The number of backlogs in Kota Kinabalu which greatly affects the number of daily cases has also decreased and today (Saturday) only 71 cases were held up for more than five days.”

Masidi said 17 districts recorded a decrease in the number of new cases compared to eight districts which recorded an increase.

“A total of 21 districts recorded new double-digit cases and three other districts each recorded additional single-digit cases,” he said.

He also said the percentage of symptomatic cases resulting from sporadic infections in the community is still high, at 65.47 per cent on Saturday.

“The high percentage of sporadic infections is a major cause of rapid and widespread viral transmission.

“According to today’s statistics, symptomatic cases caused by sporadic infections are the main contributor to new cases in 23 of the 27 districts in Sabah.”

Some 1,745 or 98.14 per cent of Saturday’s new cases are in Category 1 and 2, while 11 in Category 3, 13 in Category 4 and nine in Category 5.

The State also recorded 3,325 recoveries, cumulatively 308,920 and seven deaths û one each in Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Kota Belud, Tawau and Beaufort.

Some 14,611 individuals were vaccinated on Friday (March 4). Of these, 12,189 are adults, while 162 are adolescents and 2,260 are children.

Cumulatively, some 2.52 million individuals in Sabah had received their second dose, as of Friday
