Kota Kinabalu: Firemen rescued five individuals trapped inside an elevator at a commercial centre at Jalan Kapayan here today.

The elevator had gone out of order in the 11am incident, said the Fire and Rescue Department in a statement. 

The department, upon receiving an alert at about 11.15am, dispatched seven rescuers to the scene.

The rescuers and the building's maintenance workers managed to open the elevator and extricate the trapped people who were unscathed.

The three rescue operation ended at 11.31am.
