LAHAD DATU: The Sabah Wildlife Department (JHL) is still investigating the death of a female elephant discovered in an oil palm plantation in Ulu Tungku, near here, on Tuesday. Its Director Augustine Tuuga said the department was conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the elephant’s death, whether due to poisoning or others.
“The elephant’s carcass was found by farm workers around 9am, who then notified the Wildlife Department in Lahad Datu.
“Several samples have been taken for further analysis to determine the cause of the elephant’s death,” he told Daily Express, Friday.
It is believed that when the elephant was discovered, a portion of its body was in a puddle of water in the farm area. Previous cases of elephant deaths have also resulted in no conclusive findings.
