Suspect caught in Tuaran motorcycle syndicate

Tuaran: A motorcycle theft syndicate in this district was exposed when one of the suspects was caught less than 24 hours after fleeing in a motorcycle in Kg Tutu Selupoh.The 33-year-old local suspect was arrested at an unnumbered house in Jalan Bolong, Kg Kota, Tuaran, around 1am Tuesday, and four motorcycles suspected to be stolen were discovered.

Tuaran District Police Chief, Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim, said on Feb 14, at 12.20 a.m., they received a complaint of a stolen motorcycle in Kg Tutu Selupoh.
The complainant said he heard a knock before seeing a man fleeing on his motorcycle.

“The complainant, rushed to the Tuaran District Police Headquarters (IPD) to lodge a report.

“Based on the information, a team of police from Tuaran IPD’s Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) conducted Ops Kesan/Lejang/Cantas to track down the suspect before he was arrested,” he said.

According to Mohd Hamizi, as soon as the suspect was arrested an inspection was  conducted on four suspected stolen motorcycles. “One of the motorcycles involved was being dismantled, and based on the registration number inspection, it belongs to the complainant who lost the motorcycle in Kg Tutu Selupoh.

“Police believe the suspect’s mode of operation (MO) is to steal a motorcycle in Tuaran at midnight or early in the morning before storing it at a specific location to be dismantled and sold to new buyers.

 “We are still looking for another accomplice of the suspect, who is still at large, while the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code,” he said.
