TAWAU: The Marine Police Force’s (PPM) Intelligence Unit (URM) seized a suspicious looking box placed on top of a fish barrel containing 17 birds of various species in a special operation dubbed “Op Gelora”, on Wednesday.
Tawau PPM operation headquarters Commanding Officer DSP Ridzauddin Selamat said no one came forward to claim ownership of the birds.
“Under Section 41(2) of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997, the case was turned over to the Tawau Wildlife Department for further action,” he said.
In a separate case the same day, Ridzauddin said his team foiled an attempt to smuggle cosmetics valued at RM50,000.
“The URM unit observed 11 suspicious boxes placed outside the old CIQ building containing 1,000 packets of smuggled branded cosmetics with the brand ‘Brillian Skin’ from the Philippines.
“No one claimed ownership of the cosmetics and the Tawau Pharmacy Department is investigating the case under Regulation 18(1)(a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984,” he said.
