Crashed vehicle was stolen: Tuaran police
Tuaran: Questions after pictures went viral on social media (pic) last Wednesday of two men and a woman fleeing after crashing into a vehicle along Jalan Timbok-Tambalang, here, were finally answered when the Perodua Axia used by the suspect was discovered to be a stolen vehicle.According to Tuaran District Police Chief Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim, the car in which all of the suspects, aged 20 to 25, were travelling in lost control and crashed into the back of a Toyota Avanza parked on the left shoulder of the road around 6.50am.

“The 26-year-old victim, who was the driver of the Avanza, was reportedly starting a roadside cake business and believed to have escaped with no injuries.

“As a result of the collision, the Axia skidded and overturned, and the driver sustained injury to his left leg before fleeing with his two passengers.

“The victim filed a police report the same day and further investigations revealed that the suspect’s vehicle had been reported missing in Inanam on March 15,” he said.

According to records, Mohd Hamizi said all of the suspects were convicted of three previous crimes in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran under Section 379A of the Penal Code and two more under Section 5(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.

“Based on the information, a police team conducted a raid at Gayang inn and arrested three suspects.

“Three cases of vehicle theft in the Tuaran district from January to March were solved with the arrest of the three suspects,” he said.
