THE Sabah Women Advisory Council (MPWS) is setting up a women leadership academy called Akademi Kepimpinan Wanita (AKWan). Its Chairperson Datuk Dr Tarsiah TZ Taman said the academy, to be launched this year, aims to produce more aspiring women with qualified leadership.
“The academy would be a special institution to empower human capital, especially women in Sabah, through exposure, theoretical and practical knowledge and quality skills required in the development and progress of women in the State in line with the aspirations, policies and direction of the State Government.
“The State Government has given its blessing to set up this academy in July, last year, which we in MPWS are very grateful and thankful. This is in line with the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and digitalisation towards achieving 5.0 society, and to act as a talent pipeline that will produce more women leaders in all fields and social works, among others,” she said.
By having this academy, Tarsiah said, there should be no more excuse that there are lack of women to hold higher positions, or to be an election candidate or a State Assemblywoman, Member of Parliament, nominated assemblywoman or being appointed as a senator.
