Kota Kinabalu: A total of 1,027 neighbourhood watch committees (KRTs) that are active in the State received the Rukun Tetangga Komuniti Sejahtera Keluarga Malaysia grant amounting to RM6.16 million.
State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the grant is meant to strengthen the role of KRTs in the local community.
He said the grant from the Federal National Unity Ministry through the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) Sabah, which is under his Ministry, is also to give recognition to the community that is always active.
“This year, the Government has provided the Rukun Tetangga grant of RM6.16 million to the KRTs in Sabah, with each KRT receiving RM6,000.
“It is to strengthen the role of KRT in the community through the implementation of the KRT Work Agenda which includes the KRT Sejahtera, KRT Sihat, KRT Selamat and KRT Bersih dan Indah,” he said when officiating the grant presentation and the KRT Community Calendar 2022 launching ceremony, organised by JPNIN Sabah, here, Friday.
Shahelmey hoped all KRTs in the State will continue to be active in order to develop a cohesive community.
“We really hope that the KRTs in Sabah are all active in efforts to develop the community, strengthen unity and also strengthen national integration,” he said.
