Tenom: Eight people, including five women and girl, were injured in an accident involving a 10-tonne lorry and an Isuzu van at Mile 8, Tenom-Kemabong road, Sunday.
Six victims aged between 35 and 67 were seriously injured while two more aged between 11 and 13 received minor injuries.
Keningau Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department Chief Yuszaimi Hairrul Azwan Juatan said the Tenom Fire and Rescue Station received a call at noon and six members led by Operations Officer Ruzlana Japar went to the scene, 13km away, with machinery. Five victims were sent to Tenom hospital by the public before the arrival of the fire members while three more were successfully removed and sent to hospital by ambulance for further treatment. The operation ended at 1.57 pm.
Meanwhile, in Keningau, Yuszaimi said the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 9.13pm on Saturday night about a landslide along the Keningau-Kimanis road and 10 firefighters led by Operations Officer, Leong Hoi Min went to the scene 24km away with machinery.
Yuszaimi said the landslide resulted in soil and rock fragments on the road surface which were cleared.
