33-year-old  jailed for threatening to hurt mum
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court, Wednesday,  sentenced a 33-year-old man to a total of 36 months for threatening to injure his mother and damaging her car.

Mohammed Azlan Puharba was jailed 18 months after he admitted to threatening his mother Samoi Apok at noon on Jan 21 at a house in Kg kepayan Baru, Manggatal.

Azlan was handed another 18 months after he pleaded guilty to damaging two shoe closets and a Perodua Kembara car belonging to Samoi at the same place and time.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun ordered Azlan to serve the jail term concurrently from Wednesday.

Earlier, Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that Samoi lodged a police report stating that her son, Azlan, had damaged the shoe closet at the veranda of the house and kicked the vehicle, causing RM1,000 loss.

Azlan was arrested by police outside the house at 12.20pm on the same day.

Unrepresented, Azlan requested for a lenient sentence.

The first count under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction while the second count under Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term between one year and five years or fine or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old unemployed man was fined RM2,000 or 12 months jail for damaging RM50 worth of merchandise in a shop.

Mohd Rizan Mazlan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing mischief at the Bibi Dan Zarwan grocery shop, Plaza Alamesra, near here, at 10pm on Feb 26.

Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik, prosecuting, told the court that Rizan, who was unknown to the shop owner, entered the premises and demanded money but was not given by the shop owner.

Rizan then caused a stir and threw the items on the shelves to the floor, causing some items to be damaged, the court heard.
