PENAMPANG: A 57-year-old man died after collapsing while playing football on Sunday.
The victim, who was a goalkeeper, is said to have collapsed and lost consciousness after throwing the ball in the 6pm incident.
According to Penampang Police Chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim, the victim died while being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE) emergency department.
He said the cause of the man’s death has yet to be determined and the victim’s body has been sent to the HQE Forensic Department for an autopsy.
“At the time of the incident, the victim’s friend who witnessed him collapsing immediately assisted and discovered that the victim’s pulse was still beating.
“Fire and Rescue Department personnel who arrived at the scene immediately provided respiratory assistance before transporting the victim to the hospital,” he said, adding the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).
